OK, so it’s all over for another year. Red carpet season pretty much wrapped up with the golden finale of the Academy Awards. And wasn’t it a fabulous night fashion-wise? Angelina in deep black, velvet Versace; Gwyneth in crisp white Tom Ford; Penelope in blue Armani Privé; Jessica Chastain in show-stopping McQueen; Rooney Mara in Givenchy and Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood, there were some real movie-star dresses worthy of a Hollywood starlet.

But what about the hair? This year, there were some amazing hairstyles on show; from Viola Davis’s ambitious au-naturel style that bursts with confidence, to constant hair hero Michelle Williams’s gorgeous pixie cut that channels Sixties icons Mia Farrow and Twiggy.

If like me, you were searching for a fresh look this year, then next time you relax into the salon backwash, allow thoughts of these hair heroes past and present to fill your mind and inspire your look, whether your taste is structured or more soft and flowing.

Stacey – Not Celeb Mum of the Year

by admin on March 6th, 2012 at 7:12 am

Over the weekend Stacey Solomon was pictured smoking a cigarette, which wouldn’t usually be a big deal, but she’s currently 7 months pregnant.

Naturally the pictures attracted all sorts of negative criticism and as a result Foxy Bingo have just released the following statement

“Having been named Celebrity Mum of the Year 2011, Foxy Bingo and Stacey Solomon have enjoyed a close working relationship in the past year, including on the Foxy Mum of the Year campaign – a nationwide search to find Britain’s best real-life mum – which Stacey launched last month.

“However, following stories in the newspapers in recent days, Foxy Bingo has taken the decision to stand Stacey down from her position as judge on Foxy Mum and from the voting shortlist for Foxy Bingo Celebrity Mum of the Year 2012, the winner of which will be announced next week.

“Stacey has apologised to the people at Foxy Bingo and is sorry and embarrassed by her actions. We understand Stacey is doing everything she can to stop smoking and in recent times has cut back dramatically. She’s naturally disappointed but accepts Foxy Bingo’s decision.

“Foxy Bingo would like to place on record its thanks to Stacey for all her efforts so far on the Foxy Mum campaign.”

Oh dear.

Meanwhile the former X Factor star has also been on the phone to Loose Women defending her actions.

She said, “There’s ups and downs to people being critical because it makes you think oh my God, I really must sort this out and you feel even more guilty than you already do because don’t get me wrong I felt guilty before all of this came out.

“But there is a little a bit of you that thinks I love my children with all my heart so some of the comments are a little bit harsh.”

Vanity Fair Oscar Party – Olivia Wilde with a Chic Updo

With a black strapless Gucci gown and a super chic updo, Olivia Wilde was definitely one of the most eye-catching stars at the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday evening. According to the official press release, celebrity stylist Davy Newkirk and Wilde decided on a retro-inspired hairstyle. Newkirk did an amazing job creating a gorgeous but effortless look to complement the dramatic gown and the star’s natural beauty. Wilde ended up looking stunning, channeling ’70s energy with an edgy bun, smoky eyes, and gold choker.

To recreate this timeless updo, start by adding a nice texture to hair. For Wilde’s shorter hair, Newkirk applied Wella Professionals Pearl Styler styling gel to hair and then used a rough-dry technique. Using a bungee cord, he secured her hair at the crown of the head. For more roughness and for an edgy feel, tease the ends of hair before forming the bun. The last step is to twist hair around the bungee. To get the effortless, chic hairstyle, Newkirk made sure that the bun was loose, rather than tightly wound. Use bobby bins to secure it in place.

Once the updo is in place, it is time to spray and add a bit more edge. For her hair, the stylist used Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix hairspray to hold it in place. Using his fingertips, he then roughed-up the bun and the roots for more texture. Spray again to secure the structure. A sophisticated, sexy updo to go with dramatic eyes and a black gown had Olivia Wilde ready for an amazing Oscar evening.

Rihanna Spends a Whopping £15,000 to Rescue Her Hair

Rihanna has reportedly spent £15,000 to salvage her hair after a spa disaster.

According to reports, the stunning singer has flown her US stylist to London first class because she didn’t trust local hairdressers with her precious mane.

The star had been enjoying a swim and sauna at her London hotel but the humidity allegedly ruined her locks.

“When she got out, her hair was tangled and matted. She slapped a load of conditioner on but it didn’t get through the mass,” a source told British newspaper The Sun.

“She didn’t want to take the chance on an unknown [stylist].”

According to the insider, Rihanna was desperate to get her own hair expert Ursula Stephen to sort out her tresses.

She was due to appear on UK TV series The Jonathan Ross show that night, so desperate measures had to be taken, and the beauty didn’t mind paying the price for it.

In the meantime, the 24-year-old songstress hid her locks under a baseball cap.

“Because they were on such a tight schedule, they had to get her on the first flight. Rihanna didn’t care about paying a fortune,” the source explained.

“Rihanna shoved a hat on to go to the studios. She was fine when she knew Ursula was on her way.”

Rihanna has been experimenting with her locks of late. She recently debuted her bleach blonde tresses after sporting natural brunette curls for a while.

The Best Short Celebrity-Style Haircuts for 2012

by admin on February 28th, 2012 at 6:13 am
Posted In: Celebrities, Hair Tips

Once again short, cropped haircuts filled the runways for 2012, with some adding a hip rocker edge and others tapping into the retro fashion trends. Celebrities often act as inspiration for chic haircuts, and this year, those with an edgy pixie cut, like Halle Berry and Victoria Beckham, serve as sounding boards along with the cropped bobs of Keira Knightley and Dianna Agron. Use the celebrity haircuts below as the basis for your new hair makeover.

Keira Knightley Bob

Unlike the straight-edged bobs of the last few years, 2012 bobs channel the 50’s with a modern twist. Like Knightley’s, the bob starts at chin length in the front and gradually rises as it goes to the back, ending high on the nape of the neck with layers. Add in a light wave or encourage your natural curls and make sure to have plenty of volume at the top. For the perfect example, check out current model-muse Arizona Muse in issue 35 of Self Service magazine. For an extra chic mod twist make the ends shaggy and very short in the back. Part the hair far to the side and use a bobby pin to secure the hair flat against the side of the head.
